Group says ball in Premier’s court to restore passenger rail service

A rail lobby group says it’s time for Ontario’s new Premier to deliver the goods on passenger service.

Northeastern Ontario Rail Network (NEORN) says during the election campaign Doug Ford promised to restore passenger service if he became Premier.

NEORN says Ford is into his fifth month as Premier and now it’s time to start looking at following through on that promise.

Over the past five years NERON has gained a lot of support for the restoration of passenger rail service.

That support has come from numerous municipal councils and First Nations councils as well as economic development organizations and the Canadian Federation of Students.

NEORN’s co-chair Lucille Firth says the lobby group has been collecting resolutions from various bodies that want rail passenger service back in the north.

It gave these resolutions to the Premier and all MPPs from Northern Ontario last week.

NEORN says the ball is now in the Ford government’s court.
