911 hang-up call leads to weapons, impaired charges

(CHISHOLM TOWNSHIP, ON) – Early Saturday morning, officers from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a 911 hang-up call in Chisholm Township.

Officers attended the residence and began an investigation into a domestic dispute. During the investigation, a male inside the residence displayed a rifle in the window to officers.

As the investigation continued, the male left the residence in a vehicle. He was stopped by police and officers detected that he had consumed alcohol. Officers also located a rifle in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests.

A 20-year-old man from Chisholm Township is charged with the following:

  • Impaired driving
  • Driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol
  • Careless use of Firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle

The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 13.
