Labour group identifies job sectors most at risk because of automation

The Labour Market Group finds people working in the accommodation and food services industry are more at risk than other industries at being replaced by automation.

The sector tops the list of 21 work industries LMG compiled in its latest jobs reports.

The prediction has certainly held true with some retailers and grocery stores in the North Bay area introducing self-checkout machines.

Food ordering kiosks are also now in place at fast food outlets.

Manufacturing, transportation and warehousing are next on the list most at risk of seeing automation replace people.

Also making the list of top five is the agriculture sector and mining quarrying which includes oil and gas extraction.

Construction is sixth on the list followed by the retail trade.

The areas least at risk of seeing more automation include education, scientific and technical services, health care, real estate and public administration.
