Illegal deer hunt results in $6,500 in fines

It’s a costly verdict for an Orillia man found guilty of illegally hunting deer in the north.

The man was fined $4,000 for going on private land to hunt and $2,500 for discharging a firearm from to road.

Four years ago in November the man was stopped by West Nipissing Police for erratic driving near Sturgeon Falls.

Police found the body of a deer in his trunk during this investigation and called the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Through its own investigation the MNRF learned the man had driven through a series of roads from Garden Village to Port Loring where the deer was killed.

The man was convicted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

The case came before the courts in North Bay this month.
