Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with various offences after North Bay OPP say they clocked them going 70 km/h over the posted speed limit in a stolen vehicle.
The two 17-year-olds from North Bay (who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act) were pulled over after officers observed them travelling at a high rate of speed at approximately 4:50am on Friday. The officers were on patrol on Highway 17 in Nipissing First Nation.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and began an investigation. The licence plate was found to be stolen and, as a result, the two vehicle occupants were arrested. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was also stolen from North Bay.
The passenger in the vehicle was charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 2
- Fail to Comply with Sentence
- Person under 19 years Consuming Liquor
- Person under 19 years Possess Cannabis
The driver was charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 2
- Race a Motor Vehicle – Perform a Stunt
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence
- Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
- Drive with Liquor Readily Available
- Drive with Cannabis Readily Available
Both accused have been released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on December 12.
