Prestigious screen award for Canadore student

Canadore College digital cinematography student Morningstar Derosier was awarded The Ellen Monaque Award for Best Youth Work at the imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival last month.

Derosier, of Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake First Nation), won the award for her second-year film project, A World of Our Own. The film topped some stiff competition, including submissions from established professionals from around the world. The accolade was presented at the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre and came with a $500 cash award sponsored by RBC and the Humber College Aboriginal Resource Centre.

Canadore College’s digital cinematography and First Peoples’ Centre brought nine students to experience the film festival, which took place October 17-21 in Toronto.

imagineNATIVE is a registered charity committed to creating a greater understanding of Indigenous peoples and cultures through the presentation of contemporary Indigenous-made media art (film, video, audio and digital media)
