Property crimes in North Bay up 10.8 per cent in 2017

Reported thefts from vehicles in North Bay were on the rise in 2017. There were 508 last year, an increase of 66 over 2016.

It was just one of the offences that saw a jump among an overall increase in property crimes in 2017, according to the North Bay Police Service’s annual report.

Overall, property crime violations were up 10.8 per cent from 2016 to last year.

There were 2,160 property crime charges last year as compared to 1,937 the year before.

Break and enters reported are up by 12.2 per cent, to 220, as compared to 196 in 2016 and 174 in 2015.

Thefts under $5,000 reported to police rose by 27.4 per cent to 538 in 2017, while in 2016 there were 422.

Mischiefs reported were up 8.6 per cent, while shoplifting reports also rose by 6 per cent.

One property crime the report shows as decreasing is instances of reported frauds, down 5.4 per cent from 2016.
