‘Break the Ice on Mental Health’ event a smashing success

The 2018 Lakers Break the Ice on Mental Health event raised $8,264 to support mental health in our community.

This year’s class of 24 determined Nipissing University Sport Marketing students organized and pulled together this important event. Students began working on this project in early September and have learned many important lessons as they venture beyond traditional classroom expectations and manage “real world” demands.

The class is proud to announce that past event results were surpassed this year as more than 750 fans were in attendance to cheer on the Lakers hockey teams at Memorial Gardens, and to support mental health awareness and fundraising efforts.

Proceeds from this event will assist the Canadian Mental Health Association (Nipissing Regional Branch) and NU Listens in delivering essential mental health support programs within our community.

The Lakers thank Scotiabank for being an important partner for several years, along with many other organizations and individuals that have championed these important efforts through sponsorships, donations and fundraising participation, showing what a caring and giving community Nipissing is a part of.
