Jay Aspin has been acclaimed as chair of the Near North District School Board.

Aspin is no stranger to the board having served as a trustee for seven years and at one time was also chair.

He’s also a past city councillor in North Bay and the former Conservative MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming.

Aspin has also been the president of FONOM (Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities) and was once the President of the Northern Ontario School Trustees Association.

Joining him as vice chair is John Cochrane who was elected to the post.

Cochrane is a former governor with the Canadore College Board of Governors.

Cochrane served as a Canadore governor for 12 years and along the way held positions like Chair of the Board and also served as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee.
