Mayor relays his personal experience with Alzheimer’s at flag raising

Friday morning at North Bay City Hall’s Leger Square, a flag raising ceremony was held to recognize Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Mayor Al McDonald read a proclamation and told a personal story about the struggle of someone dear to him with the disease (see attached video).

Bob and Carol Wood also attended the ceremony. Former Nipissing MP Wood has been a vocal supporter of the cause and to change attitudes toward the disease and erase the stigma.

For Awareness Month, the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts has launched a campaign to showcase the unique and diverse stories of individuals both locally and from across the country who are living with dementia. The aim of the campaign is to show life continues after a diagnosis of dementia.
