Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says Innovation Initiatives Ontario North (IION) is one of those agencies that accomplishes a lot with less.

Fedeli says IION has a solid track record of being able to consistently create jobs.

He says the latest example was increasing the number of placements for entrepreneurial students to 60 from 45 after getting a grant of $330,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“It’s a small amount but we expect great things from it,” Fedeli said.

“To have 60 jobs created from $330,000 over three years is a pretty good return on the dollar.”

Fedeli says one reason for IION’s success is the staff.

He says the staff give personal attention to the individual entrepreneurs and that’s helped “create a winning formula”.

Fedeli says IION works at creating jobs in retail, manufacturing, high-tech and even low-tech sectors.

Fedeli says IION is more than a business incubator because it matches employers with employees and it also trains and teaches them.
