Birchwood Village blaze contained

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services responded to a vehicle fire in Birchaven around 10:00pm on Wednesday.

A neighbour, Darren MacDonald says he arrived home to see a van in a Birchwood Village parking lot off Madelena Drive in flames. “I have no clue how long it was going for. The fire crew was already there when I got home and it was put out within 10 minutes of me getting home. The van looks like it was missing its doors, but we didn’t get too close.” MacDonald was able to snap some photos of the incident.

Another neighbour who had a closer vantage point said early Thursday the vehicle involved in the fire was an SUV.

Firefighters battled not only the flames and heavy smoke but also bitterly cold temperatures. The temperature at the time of the fire was minus 27C and minus 37C with the wind chill.
