Women’s March tomorrow

Organizers say folks will be gathering tomorrow at Amelia Rising Sexual Assault Centre of Nipissing at 11:00am for the annual Women’s March.

The first march took place as a worldwide protest on January 21, 2017, the day after the inauguration of Donald Trump. The global theme for this year’s march is #womenswave.

Those assembled will be leaving Amelia Rising at approximately noon to march down Main Street after an opening ceremony where participants “will acknowledge the land and relations as Treaty People and speak to an ongoing need to reconcile from the ongoing impacts of colonization of our Indigenous peoples.”

Three main speakers are scheduled. Warm up with coffee, tea, and food after the march and hear from keynote speaker, Donna McCloud.

Through this march, organizers hope to “raise awareness about women’s issues locally, especially sexual and gender-based violence.”

The Women’s March Canada organization now has a local North Bay chapter and the group hopes to have more events throughout the year in the hopes of making the 2020 edition the biggest march yet.
