Blue skies ahead for Ontario Northland, employees

There will be five years of labour peace between the ONTC and its employees.

A five-year tentative agreement between Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (Ontario Northland) and Unifor Local 103 was ratified this weekend.

Unifor represents over 350 unionized employees working in clerical, on-board service, supply stores, a hotel and shops at various locations throughout northern Ontario.

“Having a five-year agreement with our largest union is a significant competitive advantage for Ontario Northland and provides labour stability for employees,” said Corina Moore, President and CEO. “I would like to thank the employees for supporting this agreement. I look forward to sharing this news with our current and prospective customers, and am optimistic this will bring more work to Ontario Northland, in turn creating more jobs in Northern Ontario.”

“This agreement sets the stage for Ontario Northland to be open for business,” said Andy Mitchell, President of Unifor Local 103. “Our members have delivered with a strong turnout and show of support, now the company can go after long-term contracts.”
