No injuries, no leaks in train versus truck

A train conductor who got on the emergency brake quickly likely avoided what could have been a catastrophe.

Shortly after 3:00pm on Monday, members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for a collision on Sunnyside Road, in the Township of Bonfield.

This was not your typical fender bender, however. Further investigation revealed that a propane truck was leaving the area and got stuck on the railroad tracks. The train crew was able to see the truck and the emergency brake was applied immediately. The train struck the propane truck at a low rate of speed, causing minor damage. The truck contained propane at the time of the collision but did not sustain any leaks.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.
