Three sledders rescued from slushy Lake Nipissing

Police say three men who ventured out on Lake Nipissing under questionable ice conditions “sustained no injuries but they were very wet and cold,” after being examined by Emergency Medical Services.

Last night, just before 10:00pm, Sudbury OPP Warren Detachment responded to three male snowmobilers stuck in slush on Lake Nipissing.

The West Nipissing Fire Department assisted in locating the subjects, approximately ten kilometres from shore.

The OPP is recommending that snowmobilers stay off the lakes. With all the rain recently the lakes are very slushy making it difficult to travel.

The OPP is also reminding snowmobilers to expect the unexpected, dress for the weather, ensure your cell phone is fully charged and never travel alone.
