Public works crew rescues woman from burning home in North Bay

No one was hurt in a mid-morning fire in North Bay that saw a passing crew from public works help the homeowner get out of her burning house.

The fire at 259 Kingsway Avenue broke out just before 9:00am Monday and firefighters were on the scene within four minutes.

However, before they arrived, a city public works crew happened to be in the neighbourhood and got an elderly woman safely out of the home.

There was no one else in the house.

Fire officials say it appears careless smoking may be behind the fire.

The fire started in a piece of furniture and then spread elsewhere in the home.

At this time a damage estimate is not available.

There is quite a bit of damage to the home and the resident won’t be able to return until that damage is repaired.

The fire department is sending a big thank you to the public works crew that acted quickly and got the woman out.
