North Bay man banned from owning pets after exposing kitten to marihuana smoke

It’s a 10-year prohibition on owning animals for a North Bay man found guilty of animal cruelty.

The court issued the ban against 20-year-old Cassidy “Marcus” Beaucage for his part in exposing a kitten to marihuana smoke.

The court also ruled that Beaucage cannot live with animals for 10 years and he’s on probation for two years.

The case involves an online video of three young people putting a kitten in a sleeping bag and then blowing marihuana and tobacco smoke into the bag and the kitten’s face over and over again.

The North Bay and District Humane Society was tipped off about the incident and when an Ontario SPCA officer investigated the matter last June 5th, Beaucage admitted to the incident.

The officer also learned at the time that the kitten had been relocated to another home following the incident.

Dr. Hailey Bertrand of the Parkside Animal Hospital in North Bay says pets are much more susceptible to the effects of THC which is found in marihuana.

She adds it doesn’t take much for signs of marihuana toxicity to show up in pets.
