Nipissing Serenity Hospice is having one of its rooms named in memory of the Pace family of North Bay.
The pediatric room is being named the Alex and Murray Pace room in honour of a grandfather and his grandson.
The dedication was made possible by a donation through the Pace Family Foundation.
Doctor A. Murray Pace was an obstetrician who died at the age of 80 after suffering from Parkinson’s disease for 16 years.
His daughter Kate Pace Lindsay, a past Olympic skier, says over the decades her father delivered thousands of babies and played a significant role in the lives of many young families in North Bay and the surrounding area.
Alex Pace died just before his 12th birthday after a two year battle with osteosarcoma, which is a bone disease.
Pace Lindsay says her nephew stood strong and courageous in the face of the disease.
The family describes the young boy as a sweet young man who was wise for his age.
Construction on the hospice at the 799 John Street site continues.
The facility is expected to open this fall.
Once open, the $7-million facility spread over 2.4 acres will have 10 beds.
