Municipal officials identify ‘areas of concern’ for flooding

North Bay Councillor Mike Anthony took to social media to updated residents on preparations for heavy rainfall in the area.

Anthony, Vice-Chair of the Engineering and Works Committee says Public Works “personnel are proactively assessing threat areas and work is being done to ensure as much drainage as possible.

“Public Works, Fire and Police personnel are on alert for this weekend and there will be sand and sandbags available at public works if needed,” he says.

Anthony adds officials will be closely monitoring Chippewa Creek along Fisher Street from the Highway 11/17 bypass to Lake Nipissing; Parks Creek from the ONR tracks to Lake Nipissing; the LaVase River along Riverbend Road and Premier Road; and, Pinewood Parkway Creek at Birchwood/Jane and at Leonard/Ursula.

The extreme precipitation has not materialized but a rainfall warning remains in effect from Environment Canada and a Flood Watch has been issued by both the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
