Community stewardship can keep North Bay clean, green and beautiful

Organizers say a community beautification initiative called North Bay Clean, Green, Beautiful, (NBCGB) is already gaining momentum.

NBCGB kicks off May 7 with a presentation to North Bay City Council. Individuals, organizations, businesses and community groups are invited to join in the community-wide clean-up the week of May 7-11 or throughout the summer months.

“Together, we can create beauty in public, private and unexpected places. Through Clean, Green, Beautiful, we can work together to foster stewardship of our land, water and community with a focus of raising civic pride and enhancing the beauty of our city,” said committee member Hariett Madigan.

More than 200 people and organizations are already on board to take part, with a focus on litter clean-up at their places of business or in their neighbourhoods, culminating with the Heritage Gardeners’ annual waterfront cleanup on May 11.

“Beautification starts with being a litter-free community, and that’s our focus for 2019. We want to share the stewardship culture of the Heritage Gardeners with the whole city. We’re inviting residents to enlist their friends, neighbours, and co-workers to clean up their neighbourhood or business location the week of May 7 to 11,” said Peter Chirico, President & CEO of the Chamber and committee member.

A limited quantity of free bags are available for pick-up at the North Bay Heritage Gardeners office (245 Oak Street East, Suite 112), North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (15 Janey Avenue), North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce (205 Main Street East), The FARM (154 Main Street West), and  Home Hardware Nipissing Plaza (390 Lakeshore Drive).

On May 11, the annual waterfront cleanup day, bags will be available at the Waterfront Rotary Rotunda, from 9:00am to 11:00am.
