Low rate of speed on highway draws attention from OPP

Speeding is not the only behaviour that draws the attention of the police — as this driver found out, so can travelling too slowly on the highway.

A driver on Highway 17 east of North Bay faces charges after an OPP officer pulled her over for driving too slowly while on patrol Wednesday afternoon. The officer reports the 45-year-old Stratford woman was driving well below the posted speed limit of 90 kilometres per hour.

The officer followed the vehicle, eventually pulling it over, and charging the driver after speaking with her. Community Safety Officer Shona Camirand clarifies police, as in this case, can charge a suspect with impairment based on the officer’s observations.

The driver has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused was issued a 90-day automatic driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The driver has been released with a June court date.
