A new operating budget of $17,053,000 is being proposed by the Police Services Board. That’s an increase of 2.5 per cent. Chief Paul Cook was congratulated at the meeting for having a surplus of 94-thousand dollars that was being carried over from last year. Cook promised that they would be working on cutting overtime costs which totaled $510,000 last year. They are also contending with rising costs in legislative changes, and a need to replace bullet proof vests in the next few years.
