22 Wing at D-Day and Battle of Normandy celebrations this week

22 Wing has two of its personnel in France this week for D-Day and Battle of Normandy ceremonies.

The event signalled the beginning of the end of World War Two which ended the following year.

The Allied invasion helped free France from German control and served as the trigger for other victories across Europe throughout the year and into 1945.

Canadians who were part of the invasion were with the British Army Group and 359 Canadians died on D-Day.

Also, in the Battle of Normandy, 5,000 Canadians would die.

Both Carr and Dion have been in France the last several days practicing with the Official Canadian Armed Forces contingent ahead of this week’s events.
