Hardworking Trojans rewarded with trip to OFSAA soccer

The West Ferris Trojans senior boys soccer team is in Hamilton to compete in the OFSAA provincial championships.

The Trojans have peaked at the right time of the year. The Trojans represented NDA at the NOSSA A championships where they defeated College Notre-Dame 1-0, last Friday.

The Trojans have demonstrated tremendous improvements in technical skill and team system play throughout the season thanks to coaches Cameron Culbert and Paul Cook.

Team officials say the Trojans feature a very skilled goaltender in Jeff Crowe, a solid backline led by team captain Ethan Hurd and a number of skilled midfielders. They have found their success and persevered throughout the season by outworking their opponents and receiving timely goals from their skilled players.

The Trojans open OFSAA today at 9:00am as they face Louis Riel from Ottawa. West Ferris then takes on tournament hosts Hamilton District Christian High School at 12:00pm. Day two will see the Trojans take to the pitch against Nicholson Catholic at 8:00am on Friday before finishing round-robin play against Tilbury High School at 11:00am.

Head coach Brandon Grube stated that he is very pleased with the relentless work ethic of the green and white through the entire season. “Our guys have some skill and battle hard. I know these guys can compete well in this tournament. The OFSAA experience is always special. We as coaches are very pleased to see such a great group of kids persevere and earn this opportunity.”

The Trojans last qualified for OFSAA back in 2007, and have hosted the tournament in North Bay a few times since.
