Trio of weekend impaired charges brings local OPP total to 25 in 2019

Three female drivers, all with home addresses outside the area were charged with impaired driving by the North Bay Detachment of the OPP over the Canada Day long weekend.

Officials say these are the 23rd, 24th and 25th drivers charged with impaired in the North Bay OPP coverage area this year. The OPP reminds the public impaired driving is a serious offence with significant penalties.

Friday afternoon, officers received a traffic complaint in Mattawa. After speaking to the driver, officers requested she provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device, which the officer reports resulted in a fail. The driver was brought to the detachment for further testing.

A 59-year-old woman of Copper Cliff, Ontario, was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 Plus.

Early Saturday morning, officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program on Highway 17 in North Bay. Police say a vehicle stopped onto the shoulder of the highway and the driver started walking away. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and brought to the North Bay OPP Detachment for testing.

A 30-year-old female of Onaping, Ontario, was charged with Failure or Refuse to Comply with Demand.

Late Sunday evening, officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11/17 in North Bay. Officers observed a vehicle driving erratically and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking to the driver, officers requested that the driver provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device, which they report resulted in a fail. The driver was brought to the detachment for further testing.

After police investigation, a 28-year-old woman from Nickel Centre, Ontario, was charged with Operation While Impaired by Alcohol and Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 Plus.

All accused were issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.

They were all released on a Promise to Appear and are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay at a later date.
