City hopes to get ‘trucks in deep’ at new arena site by fall 2020

The City of North Bay has set a deadline of August 7 to receive submissions for its new twin-pad arena and community centre and the contract for the architectural and engineering services is expected to be awarded in September 2019.

The design phase of the project will involve public open houses and council updates. It will also provide cost estimates for the facility which the City of North Bay says will be further refined and reviewed with council as the process moves forward.  Construction of the new community and recreation centre is anticipated to get underway by the fall of 2020.

The process of developing the new community and recreation centre, featuring a twin-pad arena, includes the City putting into motion the request for proposals (RFP) process. This invites proposals from qualified and experienced architectural and engineering firms for the completion of the architectural and engineering design and layout of the new facility, which will be integrated with the existing Steve Omischl Sports Complex at 1055 Lakeshore Drive.

“The new Community Centre and twin-pad arena in West Ferris will improve access to sport and recreation opportunities for the citizens of North Bay, and add to the already wonderful quality of life we enjoy in our great City,” said Councillor Johanne Brousseau, chair of council’s community services committee.

The work will include architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, sustainability/energy, civil, landscape architectural and costing work.
