Stronger purple heroin spurs community warning

When it comes to the ongoing opioid crisis, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has a warning for the community.

The Health Unit reports stronger purple heroin is circulating in both North Bay and West Nipissing. Purple heroin, also known as “purp” or “purple,” is often comprised of a combination of heroin, OxyContin and fentanyl or carfentanil.

According to the Health Unit, there has been an increase in overdoses related to this purple heroin in both communities.

Health Unit officials advise if you do use purp, start with a smaller amount and never use alone. A reminder, free naloxone kits are available at the Health Unit, AIDS Committee, and local pharmacies.
