Overpass building to be demolished but not replaced after roof collapse

First responders scrambled to 725 Main Street East after reports of the collapse of the roof at a restaurant north of the bridge deck of the Lakeshore overpass.

Later on the evening of March 5, North Bay Fire Chief Jason Whiteley confirmed a “partial collapse of the roof,” at Auntie Jane’s Restaurant with “lots of damage.”

Thankfully, there were no injuries in the collapse, likely (but never acknowledged) caused by snow accumulation in a brutal winter in the north. Whiteley said fire crews completed a search of the units to ensure there wasn’t anyone inside. As it turned out, the restaurant was not open for business that night as it had been focusing on the breakfast and lunch crowd.

Over three months later, the building that was once home to Matilda’s and Tammie’s Queen of the Wings before Auntie Jane’s is under demolition with no apparent plans to rebuild. It will be business as usual for the other establishments located on the property, with some additional parking at the south end of the complex.
