Splash! Community pad opens today

After 12 years of planning and fundraising, the Family of Rotary Splash Pad will be open for the Labour Day Weekend.

The City of North Bay says, although the project is not yet fully complete, the 6,500 square-foot facility behind the Discovery North Bay Museum at 100 Ferguson Street will be open to the public beginning at noon today.

The splash pad will continue to operate daily between 10:00am and 7:00pm until Sunday, September 15, weather permitting.

The public is asked to remain within the fenced area around the splash pad to allow for the new grass sod to take root.

A second phase of the project will pick up in the spring, including installation of sun shelters, picnic tables, additional benches and the completion of the landscaping.

The Splash Pad Project has been on the planning agendas for the Rotary clubs of North Bay and North Bay-Nipissing since 2007. The two clubs partnered with the City of North Bay in making the project a reality. The desire from the outset has been to create a legacy for the community and to provide a catalyst for development in the downtown-waterfront area.

This fully accessible splash pad will accommodate adults, families and seniors. For more information on the splash pad, click here.

The two clubs are now in sight of reaching their overall fundraising goal and wish to thank all the businesses, organizations and individuals who have generously donated. For donation information, click here.
