Labour Day Picnic organizers ‘demand fairness for everyone’ with election looming

In North Bay, workers, unions and community leaders will gather at the waterfront today at 11:00am for North Bay’s 14th Annual Labour Day Picnic.

The picnic flag display sets up around 11:30am and the free BBQ starts at noon.

In the lead-up to October’s federal election, Canada’s unions are campaigning for a Fair Canada for Everyone.

In North Bay, organizers will be celebrating the contributions of working people and to highlight ballot box issues.

“In this election, we’re asking voters to aspire to more,” said Henri Giroux, North Bay and District Labour Council President. “This is about upholding values like fairness and equality.”

Canada’s unions are calling on voters to support candidates who will support bold ideas like universal pharmacare and retirement security, and who will prioritize good jobs, a clean environment, and equity and inclusion.

“It’s so easy to give into politics of fear and division, and that’s why we’re seeing so many politicians stoop to that level in their campaigns,” said Giroux. “We know that people in Canada are better than that, so we’re asking them to demand fairness for everyone in this next federal election.”
