OPP: Hit and run driver impaired by drug

A driver who police say was involved in a collision in North Bay was later stopped and arrested in Temagami and charged with several offences.

On September 3, shortly before 9:00am, members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were advised of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11 in North Bay.

The four occupants from one of the vehicles involved were transported by ambulance to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The other vehicle left the scene.

At approximately 10:50am, members of the Temiskaming OPP located the suspect vehicle on Highway 11 in Temagami, conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver.

Subsequently, the driver was placed under arrest for operation while impaired by drug and transported to the Temagami detachment for further testing.

As a result of the police investigation, a 45-year-old Etobicoke resident has been charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drugs
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Failure to Stop After Accident

Police say the driver has been released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on September 17 in the City of Temiskaming Shores, and on September 24, in the City of North Bay.

The accused was issued a 90-day automatic driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
