Early Sunday morning, North Bay police received a call of a man putting a machine gun into a car outside of a motel on Lakeshore Drive.
As the information was being relayed to the North Bay police services for dispatch, an OPP officer in the area attempted a traffic stop because of the erratic driving of the accused. The accused refused to stop and fled southbound on Lakeshore.
A short time later the accused returned to the motel where he was arrested by police.

As a result of an investigation, the 35-year-old male with no fixed address is charged with:
- One count of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle;
- One count of Flight from Police;
- One count of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace; and
- One Count of Breach of Probation
The accused also faces five additional provincial offence charges in relation to driving infractions. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an airsoft gun, similar in appearance to a military assault rifle.
As a result of the driving infractions, the vehicle was seized by virtue of the Vehicle Impound Program of the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing at the North Bay courthouse.
