Local woman to represent province in Calgary, Alberta

Tiffany Shoults is a mother, a wife, a nurse, and now she can add Miss Ontario to her list of titles after being crowned the 2020 Canadian National Miss Ontario last month.

Shoults, who is from North Bay, is excited to represent the province nationally but says that’s not all that comes with being Miss Ontario.

“This pageant focuses on forming lifelong friendships, gaining confidence, giving back to your community through volunteerism and really promoting positive body image,” Tiffany explains. “I am looking for my community’s help in finding opportunities, or special events that are taking place that I can make appearances at and also planning fundraisers with worthwhile charities in our community.

“When I first started pageants, my view on them was very different than what they are. They’re not all just about beauty and having the body image that everyone wants. The pageants that I have been fortunate enough to participate in, they really focus on beauty from the inside out and just being a better person. That was something that really pulled me in, lacking self-confidence in myself and now being able to give back and get to meet new people really helped me build my confidence and become a better person overall.”

As for the giving back side of things, Shoults says that she is very excited to plan some fundraisers.

“Coming together with my community and helping charities that I have benefitted from the past, and I think this would be a perfect opportunity to do that and to give back to my community.”

When it comes to promoting body image, she hopes other young women can use her as an inspiration.

“Where I have come from as a person, I have had my own struggles over the years and being able to do something that I would have considered impossible at the beginning, really shows myself and others, young women in particular, that you can really accomplish anything if you put your mind to it,” Hill stated. “Anything you dream about is possible. It doesn’t happen overnight, it doesn’t come without hard work, but it is possible. I just want to emphasize this.”

Shoults will represent the province next year in Calgary, Alberta.

“I have never been to Calgary,” Tiffany said. “Anytime I have the opportunity to travel, whether near or far, I enjoy it. It will be super rewarding, to arrive at the pageant and to bond with all of those amazing women.”
