Titans show well at university event

Two North Bay Titans spent the past weekend competing in Sudbury.

The event is all about showcasing the next level of swimming, which is the university level. Based on their results from last season, Jenna Wall (15) and Ayden Michaud (16) were selected to attend the regional training camp and competition at Laurentian University.

Throughout the camp, they trained with 31 swimmers from across northeastern Ontario and had the chance to work with regional coaches before participating in a university competition while representing their region.

“This was a great way to kick off the season and get kids interested in university swimming,” says Titans Coach John McLeod. “Our Titans are only four hours’ drive from four university swimming programs.”

Although early in the season, the regional team performed well as they beat Laurentian and the University of Waterloo. Wall produced three top-eight performances to score 44 points for the northeast region (NEOR), while Michaud finished fourth in the 800m freestyle.

“Swimmers are adapting very well to me as their new coach, and their training, and are focused on a long-term result,” added McLeod, who became the Titans head coach in August. “With this being an Olympic year we’ll see a lot of fast, intense racing this season. This was a great kick-off.”

The Titans are back in Sudbury this weekend (Nov. 2-3) for the first NEOR development swim meet of the season.
