The abandoned puppies have now all been adopted

The North Bay and District Humane Society is pleased to announce that all of the 11 puppies that had been found abandoned by a dumpster in mid-August have been adopted.

The puppies at the time were thought to have been a day old when they were discovered by a local resident.

In a statement on their Facebook page at the time, the Humane Society said “We just received a box of 11 newborn puppies abandoned by a local dumpster. These puppies need critical intervention to survive, so we are asking the general public for one or two nursing mothers to help feed this litter. We are also asking for volunteer support in the case that a nursing mother cannot be found.”

Within a day the community had stepped up as 150 people had offered to help feed the puppies. Shortly afterward, the Humane Society was able to find a nursing mother to help nurse and feed the puppies back to health.

Over the course of those couple of days, the Humane Society had heard from shelters and rescues throughout Ontario and Quebec offering their help and support, and the community had shared the story around 2,400 times. All told, the original post had been seen by over 160,000 people.

As BayToday first reported, the Solicitor General’s office has started an investigation into who was responsible for abandoning the newborn puppies, but there has yet to be an update on the investigation at this time.
