Ontario government supporting seniors

The province of Ontario is committing to keeping seniors active, healthy, safe, independent and socially connected in their own communities.

To help ease the burden that is financial, or other obstacles in accessing programs and services that will help their well-being, the province is investing $14.1 million. That money will go to support 300 Seniors Active Living Centre programs province-wide, with close to $161,000 to benefit seniors locally.

Broken down, the funding looks like this:

  • $52,726 for North Bay Golden Age Club
  • $52,726 for Club Action 50+ East Ferris
  • $44,879 for Mattawa Senior Citizens Club
  • $10,600 for Callander Elderly Persons Centre (Royal Canadian Legion Branch 445)

“This funding will go a long way in helping seniors in Nipissing stay active and socially connected, while also preventing social isolation,” explained Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli. “Seniors Active Living Centres provide a hub for seniors and their families to build positive connections, encourage physical activity, and in doing so, benefits everyone’s well-being.”

The government says that the funding will provide a variety of programming and activities to help seniors stay active, socially engaged, safe, and healthy.
