Battalion team up with Amelia Rising for OHL ONSIDE

The North Bay Battalion and Amelia Rising have teamed up.

When the Troops welcome the Hamilton Bulldogs to town on Thursday night, they will do so for the annual OHL ONSIDE event. OHL ONSIDE is an initiative between the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) teams and the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres (OCRCC). The project is aimed to increase the understanding and awareness of a young player’s responsibility to demonstrate respect for women and people of all genders through their actions and words.

“The OHL Onside program has become a crucial partnership for the growth of our young men as functioning members of the community,” said Battalion Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Adam Dennis. “The goal of this program is to educate our group with hopes that they can become leaders in the community by demonstrating respect for women through our words and actions.”

The project is a two-hour workshop with an opportunity for personal development and ongoing leadership as young men in the OHL. The OHL says this will promote the importance of respectful relationships between young men, women, and LGBTQ2S+ people in their communities.

Amelia Rising’s mission is to “Support survivors to heal from sexual and gender-based violence and to educate and advocate for systemic and social change required to end sexual and gender-based violence.”

Recently Amelia Rising rebranded and moved to a new location inside their building on Worthington Street. The new location, coupled with the rebrand, helps the organization to accept everyone who needs help.
