Break out the skates, outdoor rinks to open Friday including new look Lee Park oval

Lee Park is shaping up to be the place to be when heading outdoors this winter.

The city has announced on Friday a new outdoor rink will debut in the park. Traditionally the city has installed an oval rink in the parking lot of Lee Park. This year, however, the rink has been designed to not only loop through the parking lot but also will form a trail that will take skaters through a portion of the park.

The North Bay gateway arch has also had new lighting installed, along with the CF100 airplane to illuminate the two structures at night.

The original oval portion of the trail will be opened first, and the city says it might take a few more days for the trail portion to open.

The Kiwanis shelter, with picnic tables and rubber matting, will be available for users to lace up their skates. Washrooms will also be available from 10:00am to 10:00pm.

The city adds that if food vendors are interested in setting up shop, to call 705-474-0626 ext. 2312.

Other outdoor rinks are expected to open Friday as well thanks to the cold weather in the area the last couple of days. Once they are operational, they will be open from 8:00am to 10:00pm.
