North Bay OPP make first impaired charge of 2020

It took less than a day for North Bay OPP to issue its first impaired charge of 2020.

On January 1, around 10:30pm, officers on patrol on Highway 11 saw a vehicle travelling slowly before driving into a ditch. Police say the driver was arrested at the scene for impaired by drug.

The 37-year-old man from Callander was also charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs.

Police say the man was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on February 4. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and he received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS).

In 2019 North Bay OPP charged 70 people with impaired, with the last charge laid on December 28. In 2018, North Bay OPP issued 49 impaired charges.
