It will take time, but the North Bay Fire Department is looking at a 19 percent workforce reduction in the years ahead. Part of the smaller workforce could be achieved through attrition. One thing the department wants to do is promote from within and hire an education and trainer. Eventually the department wants to have 18 firefighters on each platoon and call someone in on overtime when the number falls to 16. On another note councillor Jeff Serran wants to know if we need three fire stations and was told by fire chief Grant Love that’s something that could be examined in the future.
