Government releases questionnaire on medical-assisted dying

An online survey on medical-assisted dying is making the rounds.

The findings will help the federal government’s response to a recent ruling from a court in Quebec that found it is unconstitutional to limit access to people who are nearing the end of their life.

“While the ruling only applies to Quebec, the government has committed to updating Canada’s legislation in response to the court decision,” says Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota.

Rota says the questionnaire deals with three topics:

  • Eligibility
  • Safeguards
  • Final consent and advance requests

“I encourage you to complete the online questionnaire,” Rota added. “Copies are also available at my constituency offices. Completed questionnaires may be dropped off at either of my offices by Thursday, at 12:00 p.m., and will be forwarded to the Department of Justice on your behalf. I encourage everyone in Nipissing-Timiskaming to take this opportunity to participate in and share your views.”

Anthony Rota’s office is located at 375 Main Street West.

Medically-assisted dying was implemented by the government in June 2016.
