Timmins James Bay MP Charlie Angus is after CN following Saturday’s train derailment near Gogama. Almost three dozen cars carrying oil caught fire and five others fell into the Mattagami River. The river is a livelihood for many and Angus wants answers from CN including to what extent the river has been damaged and what steps will be taken to fix it. Angus says history shows that whenever contaminants spill into waterways, the damage is long-lasting. He says five years ago the Kalamazoo River went through a spill and $1.2 billion was spent to clean it. Angus says that clean-up didn’t work and it why he’s worried about the latest derailment. Saturday’s derailment was the third in Northern Ontario in three weeks.
