NFN changes age restriction to work in cannabis stores

Nipissing First Nation (NFN) is trying to even the field for younger people.

With the reserve set to have its first cannabis shop open this week, and a manufacturing facility to open next year, the band is moving the age eligibility of employment in stores to 19.

As first reported in the Anishinabek News, NFN Chief Scott McLeod says the age to buy products will still be 21. They realized that there were some concerns for post-secondary students who would be looking for work opportunities. He added the band didn’t want to limit employment opportunities for post-secondary students.

However, McLeod believes there is a ceiling on the market and how much it can provide, but agreed it will help stimulate the local economy and provide jobs.
