Callander Councillor passes

Almost two months after the Municipality of Callander lost Mayor Hec Lavigne, the town has lost another of its own.

“It is difficult to find the words to express my sorrow with the passing of my fellow councillor and long time family friend Maurice Turgeon, a man who gave so much to his community and the families within it, he will be missed,” Councillor Jordy Carr said on her Facebook page.

Turgeon, a long-standing member of Callander’s council, received the second-most votes in the 2018 election at 616.

Turgeon was 69.

Update from the Municipality of Callander:

It is with great sadness that the Municipality of Callander announces the passing of Councillor Maurice Turgeon.

“Members of Council, staff and residents are deeply saddened by the terrible news,” said Mayor Robb Noon. “It has been an honour to work with and learn from Maurice over the past 16 years. Maurice had a great sense of humor and was always there to help anyone in time of need. I know I join staff at the Municipality and my colleagues on Council in stating just how much we will miss his energy, and thoughtful input around the Council table. Councillor Turgeon truly made Callander better. He was a champion for our Community.  I extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Councillor Turgeon’s family and loved ones. He will truly be missed by many.”

At this time, funeral arrangements are not available; we will provide an update once more information is available.
