Salvation Army Food Bank continues to operate under new safety protocols

The Salvation Army Food Bank is still “open” for business with expanded hours and a new way of doing things designed to keep staff and clients as safe as possible.

The Food Bank, located at 134 McIntyre Street East, is now operating Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. – noon and 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in order to meet the increased need.

The new protocol is for clients to call in and do an intake over the phone, then the Salvation Army Food Bank will give them an appointment to come pick up their food, which is brought to them at the door. This reduces contact between clients and staff — and clients with clients — thereby adhering to the social distancing criteria.

Officials say, “With the increased need for assistance, there comes an increased need for donations of food, as well as monetary donations. Both can be dropped off at 134 McIntyre St. E, at the side door (parking lot door). Just ring the bell and a staff member will accept your donations. In the interest of social distancing, the Food Bank asks that if someone is already present at the door, wait till they are finished before coming forward.”
