Businesses in Ontario step up to fight COVID-19

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the Ontario government is asking businesses to step up to fight COVID-19.

Fedeli, who is also the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade says many businesses have already stepped up.

“We have had 3,700 companies offer to retool their plants now,” he explained. “We’re seeing companies like Ford make face shields, and they have donated 100,000 to the province. Danby, the fridge company, is making ventilators now.”

He says many companies have reached out through the Together Ontario portal, and the province will continue to accept proposals that have been submitted by either businesses or individuals.

In some cases, Fedeli says he has reached out to companies.

“The very first company I had called was Canada Goose,” he said. “I had just toured there a few months before and recalled all the sewers they had. I called the president and said ‘what do you think about making something for our personal protective equipment?’”

“Now, they are making 700,000 gowns,” Fedeli added.
