Epiroc North Bay shifts to distribution centre, loses 65 jobs

Epiroc in North Bay is restructuring.

Officials say the production facility will be converted into a distribution centre. The restructuring of Epiroc will see 65 positions eliminated. Employees who are part of the local engineering, sales, and product management team dedicated to rock exploration, will remain at the North Bay facility.

“Manufacture of our world-class products, like the Hobic core bit series and the Epiroc wireline drill rods, are moving to our Montréal facility as part of our overall plan to become more efficient and gain synergies,” said Denis Landry, Vice President Exploration at Epiroc. “We regret that we have to let people go, but we must adapt to changing market conditions so the company is strong for the future.”

Officials add this decision is a reflection business climate that existed before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The production for rock exploration will gradually move to Montreal, Quebec. Officials say Epiroc already manufactures products dedicated to mineral exploration there.
