North Bay businesses that play music for their customers can expect a visit from the group that protects artists’ rights.  SOCAN, which stands for the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada, says establishments need a license to play music.  The rule applies to places like art galleries, retail shops, bars and restaurants.  However if the music is piped in through a radio station, the business doesn’t need a license.
