Residents to the west experiencing a power outage due to a forest fire

Greater Sudbury Hydro customers in the West Nipissing area will be without power for the next little while.

Hydro One has also been shut down at the request of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).

Officials say the outage, which started around 9:30 a.m. is planned to last three to four hours. The reason for the outage is because of a fire near the Hydro One corridor.

Officials add the power needs to be shut off so that crews can safely battle the blaze.

The outage will affect around 2,381 Hydro One customers in the areas including:

  • Commanda
  • Field
  • Springer
  • Nipissing First Nation
  • Beaucage

Officials expect the power to return around 2:00 p.m.

“We know that outages are disruptive to our customers, as many are home during this time,” said Alicia Sayers from Hydro One. “We want to thank our customers for their patience as our crews assist the MNRF.”
